Yellu Sadam

I love sesame seeds and try to add it in as many dishes as possible. The only problem is that, for some reason, sesame seeds are not considered auspicious and not used during festivals and other celebrations. So, when growing up I could not eat much of this wonderful ingredient. But as I took charge of my kitchen I have included it in different dishes as well as to season other dishes.

This is an easy and flavorful dish. An aromatic and crunchy mixture of peanuts, sesame seeds, lentils and chillies, it can be made easily and serves as a lovely meal if you want a light dinner or a change from the regular dishes.

Yellu Sadam is a delicious rice and I always wonder why we need to have such rules. I don’t really ever follow such rules and make if I want..:)

  6. Even amma won’t allow the usage of ellu during festivals. But I used to wonder as in Karnataka, ellu is served for Sankranti. So nowadays I use ellu in recipes. This ellu saadam sounds so flavourful with the peanuts and ellu combined.

I was not knowing about that , sesame seeds are not considered auspicious. I am sure some reason must be tied to it. It is such a wonderful gem. Delicious yellu sadam
