Chunky Marinara Sauce

Chunky and easy marinara sauce that can be used for pizza, pasta, etc

  • 300 gms Tomatoes
  • 150 gms Onions
  • 5-6 cloves Garlic
  • 3 tbsp Dried herbs (of your choice)
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil
  • As required Salt
  • Optional Pepper (freshly ground)
  • 2 tsp Sugar (optional)


  • Chop the tomatoes, onions and garlic finely
  • Heat oil in a large pan
  • Add the onion and garlic to the pan and fry till the onion is translucent
  • Add the tomatoes and mix well
  • Let the pan simmer for 20-25 minutes till the tomatoes are well cooked
  • Add salt and dried herbs and (sugar, if you want) mix well
  • Simmer for another 10 minutes till the sauce reaches the consistency you like
  • The sauce should not be too dry or too runny
  • Taste and adjust for salt and herbs
  • Sprinkle some freshly ground pepper and mix well
  • Cool till the sauce reaches room temperature
  • It can be used immediately or stored in an air tight jar in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks
