Chunky Marinara Sauce

The most popular sauce or side for bread is marinara sauce and it works best with everyone’s favorite bread-Pizza! I realised I have not posted about my chunky marinara sauce as yet on my blog and this is as good a time as any to remedy that. It stays good in the refrigerator up to two weeks in an airtight jar. So it serves well for multiple pizza cravings. I like this chunky version of the marinara sauce as against the more smooth store bought version. If you like the smoother version, then you can simply blend the sauce once it is ready. The recipe will otherwise be the same.

Generously spreading chunky marinara sauce on the pizza

My daughter has been excited about helping me in the kitchen and so making pizza seemed like a good project to do with her. She spread the chunky marinara sauce and topped the pizza dough with all the veggies we could find at home. She also helped me click some pictures and has been very clear about giving her photo credit. Now she is peering over my shoulder to ensure I do exactly that/ So this click above is by my daughter, Dhruti and is uploaded for no other reason but that.

How to use the chunky marinara sauce

The marinara sauce is pretty versatile and can be used in multiple dishes –

  • Pizza is the most popular use for marinara sauce and it is hard to think of one without thinking of the other
  • Pasta is also equally popular use for the chunky marinara sauce and it lends the dish a lovely texture as well
  • It can be topped on bruschetta to make a tasty appetizer
  • It also works well as a sandwich spread and blends well with most sandwich fillings
  • I have used the marinara sauce even with baingan bhartha (a popular North Indian brinjal dish) with great success. It is a must try
  • It also is a good filling for bread rolls
