Bread Bowl

Bread Bowl

This bread bowl ticks off another item on my bucket list or should I say bread list. I have been meaning to make a bread bowl but somehow never got to it. Like we know, Bake-a-thon is made just to correct such situations. The best part of it was I got the daughter to have soup very easily because she was excited to eat from an edible bowl. That is surely another item on the bucket list – get the daughter to eat happily by herself. So yay!

Why I like this bread?

It is an easy bread to bake and makes for a wonderful addition to impress guests at a dinner. Like I said before, it makes it so easy to get kids to have their soup or anything else you want to put in it. You can also just have this like regular bread buns with any dish of your choice.

  • Knead for 6-8 minutes to a soft dough
  • Cover and set aside to let it double, around 1 hour
  • Transfer the dough to a flour-ed surface
  • Divide it into 5 parts
  • Shape each dough part into a ball and place it on a greased baking tray
  • Cover and let them double, around 30 minutes
  • Preheat the oven to 250C
  • Slash the top of the bread in the shape of a cross
  • Bake for 3 minutes and then reduce the temperature to 220C and bake for 20 minutes or till the breads are golden brown
  • Cool for 30-45 minutes
  • Cut out the top of the bread and scoop out the inside
  • To pour soup or other liquid leave a thick bottom layer to hold it in
  • Pour the soup or any other filling of your choice
  • Enjoy!

NOTES

  1. If you do not have gluten you can omit it or you can use bread flour instead of all purpose flour and gluten

That bread bowl looks exactly like the ones from the restaurants. I love to slurp on the soup and eat then eat the soggy bread — pure heaven 🙂
